Planned shutdowns and unplanned shutdowns.

Today is 3rd August. Since 31st July, our plant has been under a planned shutdown.

There are two kinds of shutdowns in any industry.

Planned shutdowns and unplanned shutdowns.

An unplanned shutdown is one of the costliest events for any plant because production stops unexpectedly and we lose both time and money.

A planned shutdown, however, is not an expense. It is an investment.
We stop the plant today so that it can run more reliably, safely and efficiently for many months ahead.

So, what should we do during a shutdown?

This is the time to complete all preventive maintenance jobs and all observation-based jobs that we noticed during plant operation but could not attend because the plant was running. It is also the best opportunity to inspect, clean, repair, align, lubricate, replace worn parts and improve the condition of every machine.

Think of your own vehicle. When you give it to a service center, what do you expect when it comes back? You expect it to be fully serviced, any defects corrected, its performance improved and the vehicle returned clean and shining.

Our plant deserves exactly the same treatment. Every machine should come out of this shutdown healthier, more reliable and looking better than before.

Yesterday was Sunday, so naturally fewer people were available at work. But every day of a shutdown is precious. Once a day is lost, it cannot be recovered. Let us make the best use of every hour so that when we restart the plant, we can proudly say that this shutdown was a true investment in our future.

आज 3 अगस्त है। 31 जुलाई से हमारा प्लांट एक Planned Shutdown पर है।

किसी भी उद्योग में दो प्रकार के Shutdown होते हैं।
Planned Shutdown और Unplanned Shutdown।
Unplanned Shutdown सबसे महंगा होता है क्योंकि उत्पादन अचानक रुक जाता है और समय तथा पैसा दोनों का नुकसान होता है।

जबकि Planned Shutdown कोई खर्च नहीं है। यह भविष्य के लिए किया गया एक निवेश है।
आज हम प्लांट को इसलिए रोकते हैं ताकि आने वाले कई महीनों तक वह अधिक सुरक्षित, विश्वसनीय और बेहतर प्रदर्शन कर सके।

अब प्रश्न है कि Shutdown के दौरान हमें क्या करना चाहिए?

यही वह समय है जब सभी Preventive Maintenance के कार्य और वे सभी Observation Based Jobs पूरे किए जाते हैं जिन्हें प्लांट चलते समय करना संभव नहीं होता। यह मशीनों की पूरी तरह जांच करने, सफाई करने, मरम्मत करने, एलाइनमेंट करने, लुब्रिकेशन करने, घिसे हुए पार्ट बदलने और आवश्यक सुधार करने का सबसे अच्छा अवसर होता है।

ज़रा अपनी गाड़ी के बारे में सोचिए। जब हम उसे सर्विस सेंटर में देते हैं, तो हमारी क्या अपेक्षा होती है? हम चाहते हैं कि वह पूरी तरह सर्विस होकर आए, उसकी सभी कमियाँ दूर हो जाएँ, उसका प्रदर्शन बेहतर हो जाए और वह साफ़-सुथरी तथा चमकती हुई वापस मिले।

हमारे प्लांट की हर मशीन के साथ भी हमारा यही दृष्टिकोण होना चाहिए। Shutdown के बाद हर मशीन पहले से अधिक स्वस्थ, विश्वसनीय और बेहतर स्थिति में होनी चाहिए।

कल रविवार था, इसलिए स्वाभाविक रूप से काम करने वाले लोगों की संख्या कम थी। लेकिन Shutdown का हर दिन और हर घंटा बहुत मूल्यवान होता है। एक बार जो दिन निकल गया, वह वापस नहीं आता। आइए, हम इस Shutdown के हर पल का सर्वोत्तम उपयोग करें ताकि प्लांट दोबारा चालू होने पर हम गर्व से कह सकें कि यह Shutdown वास्तव में हमारे भविष्य के लिए एक सफल निवेश था।
