Want to Just Grow or Want to Grow Fast? The Choice is Yours!
Let’s be honest—we all want to grow.
Some of us, however, don’t just want to grow… we want to grow FAST.
And here’s the thing: These are two very different results.
If you want different results, you need to act differently.
Growth Doesn’t Happen Just Because You’re Getting Older
We’re talking about career growth—promotion, elevation, increment, or even all of them together.
But here’s the reality check:
π Someone (a person or a system) has to approve your growth.
π Just getting older won’t get you there. Time alone doesn’t qualify you.
π You must prove that you’re ready for the next level before you’re given that role.
π In fact, you need to start doing the things required for that position—before you even get it.
Read that again. Everything here has a deeper meaning.
So, How Do You Become Eligible for the Next Big Thing in Your Career?
The first step is clarity—you must know what’s next for you.
Ask yourself:
✅ What is my next target role?
✅ What are the prerequisites for that position?
✅ Am I already doing those things?
✅ If not, how do I learn to do them?
Here’s how you figure it out:
1️⃣ Learn from Someone Two Steps Ahead
Find someone above you—not just by title, but by performance.
Observe. Ask. Learn. What are they doing that you aren’t? How do they think? What skills do they have?
A shortcut to growth is learning from someone who has already walked the path.
2️⃣ Job Vacancies Are Free Masterclasses
This one’s a game-changer. π
Go to LinkedIn or job portals. Search for vacancies in the role you aspire to reach.
Example: If your next goal is to become a CEO in the cement industry, search for CEO job postings.
π Look at the qualifications and skills required.
π Make a checklist of what you have and what you need to build.
π Start working on those gaps right now.
This is how you align yourself for the role before it even comes your way.
3️⃣ Get a Mentor (Yes, You NEED One!)
Do you have a mentor? If not, find one ASAP.
A mentor sees what you don’t and helps you navigate your career growth much faster. They shorten your learning curve by sharing insights you might take years to discover on your own.
(And yes, I’ll write separately about mentorship because it deserves its own deep dive.)
The Punchline:
Growth is a choice. Fast growth is a strategy.
π If you’re just waiting for time to pass, you’re growing slow.
π If you’re actively preparing for your next role, you’re growing fast.
So, what’s your next step?
